Marcus Antonius
Welcome to this green oasis of tranquility in the heart of the island. Marcus Antonius is perched on a hill, offering views of towering trees covering the ancient dam complex, which holds back precious water from flowing to the sea. This fertile land was a cherished settlement for the island’s original Indigenous population. Each evening, thousands of birds gather in the trees behind Marcus Antonius, filling the air with a magical chorus of bird songs as the sun sets. But even during the day, you can enjoy the sight and sound of these vibrant birds.
Marcus Antonius is housed in the former residence of Rachel, the wife of Mongui Maduro. The current museum in front of Marcus Antonius is named after him. This museum narrates the fascinating story of the Sephardic Jewish Maduro family—a tale filled with passion and determination. This heritage unveils the profound impact this remarkable family had on the social, cultural, and economic history and development of Curaçao. Mongui Maduro spent a lifetime collecting books, newspaper clippings, photographs, and other materials about Curaçao, the Antilles, and the Caribbean, as well as the Jewish history of Curaçao and the Caribbean archipelago. This collection is the foundation of a modern knowledge center located in an iconic building next to Marcus Antonius. And on the other side, you’ll find the most delightful children’s museum in the Caribbean.
But enough about the reasons behind choosing this unique location. We warmly invite you to taste what we stand for. Everything we serve is homemade, and we strive to use Caribbean ingredients that are often hard to find. For instance, we pick fresh aloe daily for our smoothies—so healthy! Try our pesto, made with the intensely flavorful tropical basil and the unique tayer leaf, which has a distinct taste from Italian basil. Or our tuna salad, prepared not with canned tuna but with freshly caught, line-caught tuna that our fisherman delivers right after his catch. And our organic dried tomatoes from Hofi Cas Cora in olive oil—these little gems feature in many of our sandwiches simply because we love them so much.
